The policy and arrangements for admission to the school are set out in the Local Authority’s school admissions booklet ‘Starting School in Tower Hamlets’, which can be accessed at www.towerhamlets.gov.uk/schooladmissions. A paper copy can be obtained from the Local Authority’s Pupil Admissions Team on tel: 020 7364 5006.
Admission to the Nursery
At Kobi Nazrul, we offer fulltime and part-time Nursery places. We have two admission points in the year – September and January. Children born between 1st March – 31st August start in September. Children born between September 1st and February 28th start in January.
To register your child for a Nursery place, please come to the school and fill out a Nursery Application form. To register your child we will need to see the original copies of the following documentation:
- Proof of child’s identity – e.g. birth certificate, valid passport etc.
- Proof of residency – e.g. council tax bills, tenancy agreement (please note that bank statements cannot be used for proof of residency)
Pupils admitted to the school will need to complete a starter pack, adhere to a code of conduct, and sign a home-school agreement. Parents are also expected to adhere to the school’s policy on attendance & punctuality, and educational visits/trips.
The school admits children using the admission criteria and guidelines agreed by London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The current policy for nursery places is to prioritise as follows:
- children who are or have been looked after by the local authority within one year prior to the admission;
- where there are exceptional social/ educational/medical needs for the school applied to;
- children with brothers or sisters in the school at the time of admission;
- to those living nearest the school.
Please note the length of time that a child’s name has been on the waiting list does not give the child priority over other applicants.
Fulltime places will be offered using the same criteria.
Most nursery aged children start school in our Nursery after their third birthday. Children starting Nursery will usually be visited at home by members of the Early Years team before admission and will be invited for Stay & Play sessions.
Please note that a place in the Nursery does not guarantee a place in the Reception class.
Admission to the Reception
Reception admissions are managed centrally by Tower Hamlets Pupil Services. You will need to apply directly to the Local Authority. You can apply online or fill out a Reception common application form (CAF) and send it directly to Pupil Services. The deadline is usually in January.
For more information, contact Tower Hamlets Pupils Services on 020 7364 5006.
Applications for in-year admissions must be made through Pupil Services, who coordinate this process.
To make an in-year application, please complete the in-year common application form and return it to Tower Hamlets Pupil Services.
